3 things we learned as Man United hit 5 past Leeds United

Man United started their 2021/2022 premier league campaign with an emphatic 5-1 thumping of Leeds United. Thanks to a hat-trick from Man United’s star player Bruno Fernandes. Fred and Greenwood were also on target as Man United cruised past Marco Biesla’s Leeds.

Paul Pogba also had an incredible start to the season after putting an all round display in the game. The French midfielder, who started the game from the left flank, produced four assist to make up for missing a sitter earlier on.

The game also saw a debut for new signing Jadon Sancho while Raphael Varane was unveiled just before kick-off.

Here are three taking points from Man United’s win at Old Trafford;

Bruno takes the Ball home

Fernandes continued the 2021/2022 season in style as the Portuguese hit three past Leeds. Bruno Fernandes had an impressive game as he was all over the visitor’s defensive lines. There is no doubt about Bruno’s immense contribution for the Red Devils since his arrival in January 2020. Following his arrival, Bruno has scored 29 goals from 52 games in the premier league. This means Fernandes has averaged 0.5 premier league goals per game. That is an incredible number!

Another man who was on the center stage of the show was Paul Pogba. The Frenchman who is into the final year of his contract must have sent a message to the board with today’s display. Paul Pogba provided four assists as Man United ran riot at Old Trafford. Pogba missed a chance to put United in front early in the first half.

However, he made up for his mistake by setting up Bruno’s opener on the half-hour mark. Pogba’s sweet pass also set up Greenwood in the second half to put United 2-1 up. Assists for Man United’s third and fifth goal of the game came from the Frenchman. This means he has surpassed his assist tally of last season (3 assists) in just one game.

Paul Pogba’s haul ensured that he became the first player in the history of the premier league to provide four assists in a game.

This performance might be a wakeup call for the club hierarchy to convince Paul to sign a new deal.

The 12th men are back

Old Trafford welcomed back the fans to a premier league game for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Man United’s poor home record last season might have been as a result of playing without the crowd. However, the old Trafford crowd was it’s their loudest as Man United put 5 past Leeds United.

By this time last season, Man United had suffered a 3-1 opening day defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. This win against Leeds might be the start of a good run on home turf.

It is going to be interesting to see how Man United’s home form looks with the fans back in full fledge.

United would be looking to continue this run as they look to bid a title challenge for the 2021/2022 season

Up next for Ole’s Red army is a trip to the saints with a clash against Southampton.
